Upper Mustang Trek With Chhiree Sherpa

We were three women traveling together in Nepal. Ten days of trekking in the Upper Mustang nestled between time in Kathmandu and Pokhara were perfect. Eager to experience this remote region of Nepal with its natural beauty and unique culture, I could not have asked for a better travel companion and guide than Chhiree Sherpa.

Chhiree's profound knowledge of the region and its stories gave me insights far beyond my trip preparation through reading and maps. The area is rich in raw beauty, culture, history and lore. With the new road under construction, it is also in a state of transition. We discussed it all as we walked and sipped milk tea and shared photographs and perspectives. 

As a female traveler, I appreciated Chhiree's grounded, trusting presence. He met us 'where we were' on any given day - and every day was different! He was patient and encouraging always, suggesting alternatives when we needed them. We ran into several groups who were disgruntled with their guide for one reason or another (didn't know the route, lacked local knowledge) and we asked Chhiree to offer his perspective, which he did with grace. 

Chhiree's communication, both by email and in person is exemplary. He's an outstanding listener and it was extremely easy to discuss ideas and solve problems with him. He's high on the EQ scale. His leadership of the team - a second guide and two porters - was equally impressive. It was obvious they felt fortunate to be working with him and we all enjoyed our time together. This camaraderie felt very special compared to other parties that appeared to be more 'us versus them'. 

I would trek with Chhiree and his team again in a heartbeat. If a little younger, I'd be enticed by his 90-day walk across Nepal - what an adventure that would be!

Mr. Chhiree SHERPA from Best Nepal Trekking understood my motivation and expectations for my trip to Nepal from the very first contact by email until today... 4 months after my adventure... He made sure I could live my dream and took care of me if he was my (younger) brother. Never too close, never too much, never too late, everything at right time and completely in flow with the environment and my expectations. 

We enjoyed moments in total silence, the breathtaking scenery of the Himalayas and the purity and beauty of its people, visited Buddhist monastery's and meditated together, we danced/drank (Raksi!) and partied hard together on Everest Day, we laughed, he let me test my voice and echo qualities through surrounding mountain ranges, we enjoyed deep informative discussions on a broad range of topics varying from how to raise our children, technical (sports) clothing to heavy topics like how I think the world and human kind originated.

And last but not least, Chhiree accepted me fully and openly for who I am and paid me respect by allowing me access to his country, his region, his people, his family and his friends like I am his brother... we respect each other as family.
Through Mr. Chhiree Sherpa and his company, my trip to Nepal was a life-changing event and got more from it than I could ever imagine let alone ever hope for...
