The Short and Easy Trek to Poon Hill

The Beauty of Poon Hill
Poon Hill is one of the most popular viewpoints in the vicinity of Ghorepani. Many trekkers on the Annapurna trail end up visiting Ghorepani as a part of their trek. Ghorepani has become a popular stop over for trekkers as a result. From Ghorepani, it is easy to visit Poon Hill.

As a viewpoint, Poon Hill has very few equals in Nepal. You can get some of the most glorious views of the majestic Himalayan Mountains. The range visible from this hill is that of the Annapurna circuit. The place is just as beautiful. It is serene and picturesque.

Trekking to Poon Hill

The trek to Poon Hill is one of the easiest that you can find in Nepal. Due to its short distance, you can also opt for this trek if you are unable to spend much time in the region during your visit.

The Time Needed: You will generally need around 4 to 6 days for the trek depending on the place you start the trek from. Typically, the trek starts at Nayapul. However, some people tend to include the trek to Poon Hill as a part of their itinerary around the Annapurna Base camp and Annapurna circuit.

Maximum Altitude: The maximum height you will reach during the trek will be 3,210 meters and that too at Poon Hill. As the height is comparatively lower, the chances of suffering from altitude sickens are low as well.

When to Visit: You can go on the trek to Poon Hill nearly anytime of the year except during monsoon.During monsoon, the rains can make the trails harder to cover.The weather gets cloudy most of the time.

Equipment: You need to carry only few equipment during the trek. There are nice places to stay and eat on the trail which means you will not require any foods, drinks to take. You should choose the proper attire for the trek including sleeping bags, however. Additionally, you should carry water with you so that you can remain hydrated during the trek. You may or may not bring snacks with you.

The itinerary for a typical trek:

Day 1: Trek to Tikhedunga. 4-5 hours

Day 2: Trek to Ghorepani. 6-7 hours

Day 3: Trek to Poon Hill and then Tadapani. 5-6 hours

Day 4: Trek to Ghandruk Village. 3 hours

Day 5: Trek to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara

From Tadapani and Ghandruk, you have different options. From Tadapani you can trek further to Annapurna Base Camp or Jhinu Hot Spring including Dhampus and back to Pokhara. From Ghandruk you can trek back to Nayapul. Alternatively, you can visit Landruk, Pothana and Dhampus from where you can go to Pokhara.
